KEBUDAYAAN EROPA (PERANCIS) PART I

Spring Agenda

Les Percussions de Strasbourg: 50 Years of Experimental Music

The contemporary music ensemble Les Percussions de Strasbourg began under the direction of Pierre Boulez nearly 50 years ago. Today the ensemble is as strong as ever and still actively involved in the exploration of diverse percussion traditions including those of the West, Asia, and Africa. To mark their 50th anniversary, the six member group has scheduled a spring tour which will take them from Seattle to Buffalo, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Boston and Berkeley.
French Cinema in New England
After a successful month of theater, New England is focused on French cinema in March. Two Francophone film series will be presented during the Francophonie celebrations, one at the Museum of Fine Arts, from March 17 to March 25, and one at the Belmont World Film, March 14th - March 30th. There will also be a beautiful Chabrol retrospective at the Harvard Film Archive and at Emerson College, March 11th - March 27th. Last but not least, the movie Gainsbourg, une vie héroïque, will be presented for the first time in New England at the Providence French Film Festival along with 17 other great French and Francophone movies, until March 6th and in Boston at the National Center for Jewish Film’s 14th Annual Film Festival, March 5th and 12th.
“Belle du Brooklyn” Deneuve Retrospective & National Tour

As spring arrives, many of us will be pulling out umbrellas and rain coats. BAMcinematek will be pulling out Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort. A tribute to the life and work of Catherine Deneuve co-presented by uniFrance and in collaboration with Music Box Films, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and Institut Français, begins with a month-long retrospective at BAMcinematek in March, followed by a national tour with retrospectives in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Pleasantville, New York, and other cities to be announced.
